Events and activities
Bridge, Burton and Trent Court care homes offer a wide range of activities.
Some are organised group events such as trips out or entertainment, others are ‘ad hoc’, including individual outings for someone who has asked for a particular visit or, perhaps, we feel they might benefit from time out of the house.
We believe that every moment matters and all of our staff are involved in creating activities and events for our ladies and gentlemen. This way to can ensure that there is always meaningful and stimulating activities taking place for everyone to take part in.
Suitable activities will naturally vary between individuals and being part of a close-knit community means that activities will be tailored around each person and their tastes.
Our care teams endeavour to accommodate particular interests or talents. A love of singing may lead to the organising of an afternoon concert; a lifetime of breeding award-winning spaniels could result in regular visits from a dog and its owner.
The more we get to know a person, the more we can make their lives active, fulfilling and still full of fun.
Additionally, people will often suggest or develop their own activity ideas to celebrate a special occasion or to mark a significant event. Staff will work with our ladies and gentlemen to develop the activities around a theme which are then planned over several days, e.g. shopping or group craft projects.
Activities
We aim to make sure that everybody’s interests are covered. Activities include:
- Quizzes and puzzles
- Arts and crafts
- Music and singing
- Weekly exercise classes
- Glass painting
- Gardening
- Baking
- Pamper Sundays
- Visits to the pub
- Shopping trips
Hobbies and interests
We encourage people to pursue their own interests on either an individual basis or in small groups. The garden is popular with our keen gardeners, but we also run craft sessions, painting groups and knitting and sewing circles.
Many people revisit hobbies they may have pursued in the past. Some take up new pursuits where having that extra bit of support around makes them accessible. Families are often surprised by the new interests that their loved ones take up and the vitality they develop in their new home.
Working in partnership
We are working in partnership with Oomph Wellbeing, who provide our care teams with a wide range of activity resources, exercise inspiration and training tools. These resources enable our care teams to offer genuinely person-centred activities for our ladies and gentlemen.
Oomph On Demand was launched to provide a flexible digital resource that includes activity, exercise, and TV content in one easy-to-use wellbeing platform. It offers a wide range of resources to support our ladies and gents, care teams and family members to improve meaningful engagement and overall quality of life.
Oomph On Demand provides constantly updated content 24 hours a day and 365 days a year. Content is created by a combination of our expert instructors and trusted partners, including Fit For Good, Instructor Live and Arthritis Action, to mention just a few. Both live and recorded video content provides a diverse range of sessions for ladies and gentlemen to enjoy, including seated exercise, Pilates, ballet and dance, which are provided up to 5 days a week. One of the things our care teams like best about Oomph is that they can request content tailored to a lady or gentleman’s particular interests.
Our ladies and gentlemen enjoy the Oomph activity books, quizzes, recipes, book club, puzzles, how-to videos and sing-along sessions.
